The church was built beetween 1719-1728 in order to replace an old Moorish church from the sixteenth century, located in the street of the Souls, on the site of the old mosque. In 1721 the Holy Sacrament was transferred to the church together with old images, the San Juan Bautista (1652), San Roque ( XVII century). All of them are still conserved. The major altarpiece (1742-1745) of baroque style was destroyed in 1936 and the present one imitates the style. The church has a small parish museum. It is a building of a single central nave, without a cruiser, with eight chapels between buttresses and rectangular presbytery, decorated with numerous baroque motifs with stuccos, golden rock capitals and entablatures.
