We continue traveling, now to Atzeneta d'Albaida, to discover articles of esparto grass and stone carving.

Atzeneta is characterized by the craftsmanship of the esparto grass where items such as serons, carrycot, carpets and 'cofines' for oil presses stand out, some used in agriculture and others for transport and commerce.

The elaboration process is somewhat complex. First, the esparto grass is soaked, then it is removed and covered to soften it and thus eliminate the 'garrancho'. Second, they must flatten the bunches, separate them and stretch them. Two bunches called "floraes" are made from the longest stretched esparto. Bundles are made from the shorter esparto grass to make ties. The remaining esparto grass is used to make ‘llata’ (flat braid) and ‘cabets’ (chopped esparto braid). You can buy these products in the workshops of Joaquim Tormo (96 235 60 76) and those of Juan Tormo (96 235 61 04).
