Antoni Miró and Otos
The City Council of Otos from the beginning supported the initiative of the Alicante University to create the Antoni Miró Chair of Contemporary Art. The creation of the Chair supposes one of the maximum academic recognitions to Antoni Miró, considering it as an outstanding artist in the current Art. You can not ignore a lifetime of tireless work in research, experimentation in new techniques and materials, providing a language of their own and an innovation in the art world. In addition to his professionalism we must add other qualities that still make him more deserving of this distinction. Antoni Miró is a person of integrity, faithful to his principles, committed, fighter, open, generous but above all very human. The Collection of Antoni Miró at the Palau de Otos is a manifestation of generosity both of the artist and of his family, because in a small village and inside an 18th century building we could lodge and show, with much pride, an itinerary with a monographic character and structured chronologically by the different stages series of the artist that will allow to follow his career and configure a global vision of his work. The contemplation of his works does not leave the spectator indifferent. Antoni Miró is an artist committed to the current social reality, with its roots, its culture and its country. Within this powerful social realism that permeates his work, the paintings act as powerful flashes to awaken in those who contemplate it, a critical attitude to the most recent history. The City Council of Otos signed a collaboration agreement with the Alicante University, transferring its artistic, bibliographical and documentary collections related to Antoni Miró. As well as offering the spaces and facilities of the Palau because it can carry out any initiative activity that the Chair program.
