OTOS The village of sundials
Climb to the summit of Benicadell, enjoy the insuperable views of the Albaida Valley and then, to reward the effort, fill the stomach and cultural baggage to the small but charming municipality of Otos. This population is a small tourist jewel of our region, where hiking, culture and gastronomy go hand in hand to offer you a very enriching and relaxing inner tourism experience. The Inhabitants of Otos still know the time with the sundials, which combine perfectly with the technological avant-garde. These patrimonial elements, Antoni Miró's painting and the protected area of Umbria del Benicadell are the three reasons to visit Otos, if you have not already done so.
HISTORY
According to Joan Coromines, the toponym Otos comes from the Iberian and means 'aliaga', a sclerophyllous shrub widely spread throughout its territory. During the Arab domination, Otos was a farmhouse of which, with the Christian conquest, King James I gave land to several knights on May 2, 1248. It ecclesiastically depended on Bélgida, from which it dismembered in 1574, declaring himself an independent parish ; then the towns of Carrícola, Torralba and Micena were added, the last two of which have already disappeared.
