Carrer Major although it may not seem at first sight, it is a medieval street, following the old road that led to Albaida and Gandia. In fact, it consists of two streets called Maians and Gomis, in which various noble houses of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries are conserved, with the churches of Sant Carles and Sant Francesc, both of the eighteenth century. It should also be noted the set of palace-houses of various nobility lineages, nativerelated to the Vila, testimony to the time when Ontinyent earned the popularity of "usietes" of the neighboring towns for this circumstance. Note the Nadal house (18th century), the palace of Maiansthe Marquis of Montemira (from the 18th century, with an important reform in the 19th century) and the palace of the Barons of Santa Bárbara (from 1750, see from the House of Culture of Ontinyent). In a branch of the main street is the palace of the PuigVelázquez (from the XVII-XIX centuries, present headquarters of the Municipal Archive of Ontinyent and the Municipal Public Library "Pare Lluís Galiana") and the house of the Cerdà ( century XVIII).
