Old andalusian castle located on a rocky hill of the North Slope of the Sierra del Benicadell of which only remains parts of the walls of the tower that served as buttress and of the cistern. The best preserved walls are on the Northen face. It is built with limestone, according to the masonry technique, looking for the flat and even the slightly worked face. It had great importance in the XIII century, when the different castles of the Albaida Valley exercised their dominion over different farms. To Carbonera belonged: Bèlgida, Otos, Beniatjar, the Ràfol of Salem,Salem, among others. According to Abel Soler, the name mozárabe refers to the exploitation of forest resources. In 1287 it was awarded, along with the castle of Rugat , to Bernat de Bellvís (sg. Escolano).
