We can access through the portal of Sant Rocthe rise of the Fossaret, to the highest point of the ciutadella, the true jewel that keeps the essence and retains places full of charm and authenticity. If we choose the San Roc portal, we will access the Palau de la Vilathe Duquesa de Almodóvar (13th-19th centuries). The palace is located in the most exposed part of the old city walls and dominates what was once the ancient kingdom of Castile. Raised in the ancient Muslim ruins and very transformed in the eighteenth century, it still retains medieval fortifications. The neighborhood of La Vila, declared a historical-artistic site in the seventies of the 20th century, conserves one of the most representative medieval sets of the Valencian lands, qualitativelyquantitatively. Do not forget that in the early fifteenth century, Ontinyent was a populous vila, the third, after Xativa and Oriola, Valencian population in the south of the Xúquer. It emphasizes the Major street of the Vilathe Trinitat, of still stately aspect. Through this neighborhood we will walk flanked by the stone voussoirs of the houses of the medieval rich and by the stone streets of the corners. We go down and on each side we will see streets, alleys and dead ends that keep their charm and reserve many surprises to visitors. The rehabilitation of the buildings, with borders painted in bright colors, has revitalized the urban landscapes and offers sensations full of suggestions. We will arrive at the Plaza de Sant Pere and continue down. We will leave behind the Callarís and the resounding names of the streets that have preserved the history in their denomination: Cordellat, de l'Església . On the other side, after the bridge of Santa María, you can see the succession of the hanging houses on some of the remains of the medieval wall, with the deep river bed of OntinyentClariano in the background.
