Portal del Carmen - Aielo de Malferit

Old access door to the villa, of great urban and religious value. It is a stay on a semicircular arch and open to the population exhibiting the image of the Virgen del Carmen with a wooden partition. The primitive nucleus of Aielo is the today called Barri del Fondo. The neighborhood conserves the irregular plot and typical alleyways characteristic of the Arab populations. Of the wall that was in the interior we do not know its original layout, but we can intuit knowing where the other access doors (Portalets) were included. The first, which is still preserved, known as Portal del Carmen to the south; the second near the Font del Mig facing north and which was called the portal of Sant Cristòfol; the third to the west, with the name of Sant Francesc next to the crossing of the streets San Antonio and the third Hail Marys, gave access to the Raval, to finish towards the east, it would be in the same street of the Church from the Palace and before to get to the temple, known as the portal of Sant Roc. These last three lasted until the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th. The primitive walled ensemble can be seen from any point in the garden, since the houses are the ones that used to make canvas from it.
