Introduction:

Emblematic route that runs through all the villages that rest at the foot of the Sierra del Benicadell, which is the highest mountain in the region with 1,104 meters of altitude. It offers us magnificent views and excellent natural attractions of the first order. We will visit the 8 towns that surround it: Atzeneta de Albaida, Carrícola, Bèlgida, Otos, Beniatjar, Ràfol de Salem, Salem and Castelló de Rugat.

SALEM

Fruit, knitwear, textiles, beverage packaging and the manufacture of espadrilles are the engine of the economy of this town. The devotional ceramic altarpieces from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries stand out, as well as the parish church of San Miguel Arcángel, a post-Renaissance work from the 17th century. The Salem mill where all kinds of cereals were ground: wheat, corn, barley and chickpeas.

Near the urban nucleus the camping areas and recreational areas are located: the source of “Barcella” and the source of “Elca”, where we find a raft and an alcabor (water collection infrastructure, probably from Roman times). As for gastronomy, “el Balduino” (coffee and truffle cake) and “Fabiola” deserve special attention.
