The Glass - L'Olleria

L'Ollería, municipality of the Albaida Valley, region with tradition of hand-blown glass for more than 4 centuries.

The first documented news of the manufacture of glass in the Ollería is of 1548, when it was spoken of the teacher Juan Gassó and two years later of Antonio Castelló. At present, more than half of the population lives directlyindirectly from the production of glass, although there is only one factory in which they work in a traditional way: that of the Abdon Marti Family. Its origins in the "know-how" of the trade go back more than 40 years, and today the second generation of glassmakers of this Family has acquired the La Mediterránea brand. Today they continue the tradition of manufacturing 100% recycled glass, as it means greater energy efficiency, contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and allows sustainable development, thus providing benefits to society in general. In addition they have introduced materials that respect the environment: in the colors they use organic pigments and in recycled cardboard packaging. In La Mediterránea, they do not consider themselves manufacturers, but artisans of glass, believing that each piece is unique and must be taken care of individually. That's why small size variations and geometric differences are part of the essence of the product that, far from being considered a defect, provide a special value. Its aim is to offer a product with innovative design and at an affordable price to beautify the houses: products for "eco-vintage" kitchen, crockery and "Trendy Home" objects and "Art" objects for decoration.
