The wine in the Vall d'Albaida has always been abundant and of good quality. Most of the villages of La Vall, are wine producers and there are different cooperatives throughout the region, but certainly when talking about wine in the region, we quickly associate this product with the population of Fontanars dels Alforins.
In Fontanars wine has always been produced. As it shows, to say that in 1950, "els Alforins", there were about fifty wineries. At present there are only six that have taken up the winemaking tradition and have adapted it to a production process that combines modern technology and varieties of the area. The wines of the "Alforins", the rest of the wines produced in the region, belong to the denomination of Valencian origin, sub-area of Clariano. A process of modernization and the rationalization of crops, the introduction of new varieties, the clonal ion of plants, early harvests, the control of fermentation temperaturesthe different types of pruning are some of the elements that have caused excellent results for the wines of the "Alforins". The vineyards of Fontanars are located around estates, typical country houses that formerly had enough infrastructure to work and produce the fruits that these lands give. These estates are an attraction of the first order when you travel the high plateau of the "Alforins". The predominant varieties for red wines are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Shyraz and Monastrell, and for whites: Verdil, Chardonnay, Macabeo and Parellada.
