The four river towns that occupy the deepest part of the region of the Vall d'Albaida are: Alfarrasí, Benissuera, Sempere and Guadasséquies.
They have been eminently agricultural municipalities for a long time, which, despite the appearance of the modern industrial estates (and the construction of the Bellús marsh), have managed to conserve to a great extent, an urbanism and landscape values where it is worth walking. The antecedents of the denomination of "The towns of the river" come from the water of the river Albaida, that extracted by means of weirs to irrigate small orchards, all of them communicated by the ditch of the Four Towns. The water from the ditch of the Four Towns projected by the Muslims, came from a weir on the river bed: between the hermitage of Colata de Montaverner and the Venta de Alfarrasí. The weir carried water from that point to the orchard of Bellus, below Benissuera, Sempere, Guadasséquies and the lost town of Benimantell.
We invite you to take a leisurely stroll on foot, by bicycle,on horseback through the old orchards of the Irrigation dich of the Towns of the River where you will discover a different perspective of the region, presided at all times by the Bellús reservoir, and the summit of Benicadell that rises in the west. Venture through the streets of The towns of the river , mixe with its friendly and welcoming people, enjoy its cuisine and festivals, the small treasures of historical heritage and, ultimately, the tranquility and quality of life of some eminently rural towns. Discover them!
